Drawing on Michel Foucault's concept of apparatus, Laura Stielike investigates the contradictions in the migration and development paradigm

Over the last decade, the migration discourse has highlighted the positive effects of migration for the development of origin countries. There are however tensions between the three levels of the migration and development paradigm, that is, the migration and development nexus at the level of international politics, the state and activities of migrants.  This new working paper focuses on these tensions to question the apparently secure knowledge on migration and development. Adopting the migration&development apparatus, the paper discusses four major contradictory binaries.
