Diffusion and Context of Transnational Migrant Organisations in Europe

The first workshop of the Transnational Migrant Organisations TRAMO Project was held at the Ruhr University, Bochum (Germany) from 22-24 November, 2007.

The project explores the role and significance of migrant associations that work across national borders and is coordinated by Professor Ludger Pries of the Ruhr University. The project involves fieldwork in Germany, Poland, Spain and Britain. The British component is based at the IMI, and will be carried out by Professor Stephen Castles and Dr Thomas Lacroix (the IMI’s new Research Officer).

The first workshop brought together researchers from the Ruhr University, the University of Duisberg-Essen (Germany), the University of Granada (Spain), Warsaw University and Oxford University,  The aim of the meeting was to map out a work programme and to discuss conceptual issues, operational definitions, fieldwork approaches and procedures for collaboration.
