Mathias Czaika asks are unequal societies more migratory?
- 28 November 2013
In a new article published in the inaugral issue of Comparative Migration Studies, IMI's Mathias Czaika questions whether societies with high inequality are more migratory.
The article 'Are unequal societies more migratory?' was published in the inaugral issue of the International Journal for Comparative Migration Studies published by Amsterdam University Press.
Mathias Czaika suggests that unequal societies are not necessarily more migratory, it depends on the type of inequality. He proposes two types of inequality across and within ethnic groups - horizontal and vertical - and argues that in this way inequality and relative deprivation can be a driver of, or barrier to migration.
