Labour migration in the Gulf analysed in latest DEMIG article
- 19 November 2014
A new article 'Labour market activity, occupational change and length of stay in the Gulf' was recently published in Migration Studies
In the article, Mathias Czaika and Maria Villares-Varela examine how long migrants stay in the Gulf region. Looking specifically at Indian labour migrants, the article analyses what determines the timing of migrants' return and the relationship between migration duration and occupational changes.
Using the Kerala (India) Migration Survey 2008 and the Return Migration Survey 2009, Czaika and Villares-Varela investigate whether the length of stay in the Gulf is affected by migrants’ occupational trajectories before, during, and after migration.
