Submitting a Working Paper

IMI has been publishing working papers since its foundation in 2006. The series presents current research in the field of international migration. We are particularly interested to receive submissions that:

  • analyse migration as part of broader global change
  • contribute to new theoretical approaches
  • advance understanding of the multi-level forces driving migration

All submissions must be electronic (including diagrams and pictures) and sent to: imi@qeh.ox.ac.uk. IMI staff will assess all submissions and in some cases may also send submissions out to external readers for comment. If your submission is accepted we will liaise with you to revise and edit the paper as necessary.

Cover page

Submissions must include a cover page that contains:

  • an abstract of no more than 200 words, and 5–10 keywords
  • the author’s contact details (postal address and email) and affiliation
  • information about the paper’s background (such as whether the paper has been presented at a particular conference or workshop)
  • word count (papers must be no more than 10,000 words)

NB The cover page will include the statement: ‘The International Migration Institute does not have an institutional view and does not aim to present one. The views expressed in this document are only those of its independent author’.

Format

There is a Word template you can download. The details are as follows:

  • Font: Calibri 12pt
  • Line spacing: single spaced
  • Headings: 3 levels maximum: (Bold Calibri 16pt; Bold Italic Calibri 14pt; Bold Calibri12pt)

For further details on punctuation and spelling, please download the IMI Style Guide.

Referencing and footnotes

  • Citations in-text should follow the author-date form (e.g. Johnson, 2009).
  • The full list of references should be given at the end of the paper. The style is not set but must be consistent.
  • Use footnotes, not endnotes, for explanatory or additional material.
